Counterfeit Spirituality
I was reading in 1 Kings how bad Rehoboam was. Consequently, God aloud the king of Egypt to attack Jerusalm and carry off its treasures – including gold shields made by Solomon. What did Rehoboam do? Repent? Nope…he just replaced the shields – with bronze shields.
This is a lesson for us. Sometimes instead of facing ourselves and looking inward at our spiritual condition, we tend to cover up its consequences. Bronze hardly looks like gold – maybe a really dirty gold. Yet it was easier for Boam to hide the result of his spiritual condition instead of dealing with it head on.
What are we trying to pass off as counterfeit?
